Grandma Martha
To my Great Big Family,
Its hard to believe that on Oct 2 I reached 84. I Thank Heavenly Father each day that I am able to see and walk. My memory is slowing down so if I forget to mention something... remember its still in one of my nine lives. It was somewhat shaking when Hellmut had his heart attack. Marty took me to see him at the Provo Hospital.. He felt pretty miserable but he was still joking around. We had a chance to visit with Doris, her husband and little girl. A few days after the surgery he was able to return to Manti. Barbara came out from Ohio to be with them... After 2 weeks, Meghan (Mats wife) stayed with them... and then Jo (David"S wife gave of her service... Hellmut says the therapist came out and gave them some instructions like walking a mile a day. I believe his recovery is going well.. he' s driving, and has gone to the Family History Center there where he is in charge.
Something new. I have a new front entrance ... Two new doors all installed, painted... I've recieved many compliments My thanks go to Rick, Mike, Chris and Reba... who spent days here. I'm blessed.
A little trouble with the gear shift on my car... but its ok now.. the part was under $20 and the labor twice that... Rick called the repair man to check everything else so Nellie rides again.
These past two months I've been learning the New Family Search. Hard to teach an old dog new tricks but I have now printed out the paper listing to take to the temple from my house instead of the center. Fifty of the cards are already being worked on in Bountiful. I've had a mentor who even came to the house twice to help me out.
So far the Clogging Grandmothers have seven gigs for the Christmas season... so we're pretty busy MOn and Thurs mornings.
Its nice to have a missionary out in the field... I'm proud of Penny in Calgary.
Jennifer and Lucy and family have returned... always a little let down Jennifer and I and Heather went to see Ariane in the high school production of South Pacific .. fun. Jennifer and I managed a puzzle and we also played Ticket To Ride with Heather and Nathan.... I won of course.
When Lucy and family came to town... they took me out to eat and later wanted to take a picture. so Rachel, Kristen and Nathan gathered round me and instead of saying Say CHeese they said Lucy's having a baby" that didn't sink in the first time, so I had to repeat it... What a surprise and how special.
Well, I've taxed my brain ... that's all for this time.... oops , thanks Rick for replacing the cartridge on the printer and for all you

Dear Family,
Always something going on around here…
As you know, Penny entered the MTC on September 16th and after 2 ½ weeks of missionary training, arrived in Calgary on October 6th. Her new companion is from the Cottonwood Heights area (Sister Jackson) and is a head taller than Penny. They are serving in the Young Single Adults Ward in Calgary. They are working with the members to get them to give them referrals. They are also very good to feed the missionaries at least 4 nights a week. Penny says the guys are better at signing up to serve them meals than the girls. She has a few investigators they are working with. She says the elders in her zone are crazy but a lot of fun. She seems to really be enjoying her mission.
It’s been nice to be able to attend our new temple, the beautiful Oquirrh Mountain Temple, since it opened the end of August. It takes us just less than 20 minutes to get there. One day I saw cousin Diane Ceslak there and we gave each other a hug. She is also in this temple district.
During October Becky directed the play “Wait Until Dark” at the Barn Community Theater. She does a good job. The play was very well done.
Daniel was also in an appropriate play for the Halloween season. He played the part of Simon Stride in the musical, “Jekyll and Hyde” in Lehi. It was also very well done, a PG 13 type show that I normally wouldn’t go see, but seeing as how my son was in it, I did and I’m glad… glad I was sitting on the 3rd row and had some of the stabbing blocked from my view.
The biggest news for us is that after 5 years and 10 months, Alan was released as bishop of our ward. That is the longest any bishop has served in our ward since it was established in 1988. None of the former bishops live in our ward now, they’ve all moved! We don’t plan on following the trend. We plan on staying here… for the rest of our days, unless some unusual opportunity comes our way. Alan was sustained the same day as a member of the high council, so we’re glad they’re keeping him busy.
Now that he has a bit more free time, Alan is considering the idea of joining a choir. He really misses leading a good choir… he also can’t decide on which one. So last week he tried out the one Heather goes to, “The Sterling Singers” which didn’t help his decision. He said it was a huge choir (couple hundred) but it was a lot of fun with a lot of really good singers. Next time he’ll try his former choir (Mountain West Chorale) again.
Ariane performed in her high school’s “South Pacific” musical the first weekend in November. She did a great job singing and dancing and enjoyed this first experience in a musical. It was fun to see it the same night with Mom, Jennifer, Heather, Casey, Jason, Becky, Kevin, Alan, and I and Becky’s family. Daniel and Marcus saw it the night before. Daniel was in this same musical at the same high school when he was a senior 11 years ago!
Last week we replaced our nearly 23 year old water heater, the one that was new when our house was built! Water just started dripping out the bottom one day and continued until there were a lot of drops of rusty water going down the drain. So we called our plumber and got a new one installed before it got any worse. They say water heaters nowadays are expected to last only 9 years. Why don’t they make them like they used to??
It was a lot of fun to have a “sisters reunion” (including Priscilla over the phone since she couldn’t come up and go to lunch with us) when Jennifer and Lucy happened to come into town the same weekend. It was especially fun with the added surprise of Lucy’s (very clever way of announcing their) very happy family news. Congratulations to the Dave & Lucy Yorgason family. We are so excited for you!!

Happy Thanksgiving season! I'm still happy and busy, as usual. I'm not quite as stressed about my new responsibilities at work any more. Teaching math and reading still takes too much time out of being a librarian, but I'm more used to it, now... the math program we use at Mountainville Academy (Saxon Math) is really good - it's a lot of fun to teach, and very appropriate for 1st graders. I would enjoy it a lot more, if that's what I’d been hired to do in the beginning...
The PE teacher at school invited the staff to take the 'presidential challenge' to have 30 minutes of physical activity, 5 days a week, for 6 weeks. I decided to take her up on it, and I've been doing pretty good. Luckily, we have 8 weeks to do it (that adds up to 30 days of exercise within those 8 weeks.) So, I don't have to give up after only 4 days of exercise for this week... To help me keep my goal, I decided to sign up for a Zumba class held at Butler Middle School one evening a week. If you don't know what Zumba is, picture the aerobic dance class craze of the 80s, and add Latin music and dance steps (move those hips!). Oh, and pronounce it "Zoomba." It has been a lot of fun! I think I'll look into the cost of the community rec center next to the school, so I can go to Zumba two nights a week. Hopefully by the end of this community class, I won't look too foolish next to those who really can move their hips. (I do NOT have Latin hips...) I still try to go Big Band Swing dancing Friday nights, so that has helped with my goal, too. I just have to be sure to dance at least 9 songs to get the 30 minutes in (I figure the songs average 3-4 minutes...)
I have a computer of my own to use, now! Thanks, Jennifer, for giving Grandma your old one... The set up (windows xp) is too different to what Grandma is used to (windows 98, I think), so Grandma offered it to me. Thanks to Grandma (for clearing the desk in her computer room, buying a new power strip, continuing to ask if I got everything needed, and helping me get it!), Uncle Rick (for changing the 2-prong outlet to a 3-prong), John Anderson (for ordering a router, getting me a copy of Office, and getting his nephew to help get it all running), I am all set up! THANK YOU!!!! Now I can fulfill my calling as editor of the Ward newsletter from home, instead of staying later at work, stopping at the library, or driving out to borrow Mom's computer.
Hurray for the upcoming season! I love Thanksgiving and Christmas - lots of family time, and lots of focus on things that REALLY matter in life: appreciating the bounty we have, passing that bounty on to others through service, celebrating the birth of Christ, spending time with family, and just being happy. I love this time of year!! (and now to face the challenge of maintaining this positive feeling through the stress that can also come this time of year...) I look forward to seeing some of you sometime in the next several weeks.

Hi ya Lingoers,
Happy Thanksgiving! The Hill clan of Georgia are doing well. We drove up to Raleigh and visited Ryan and Cheyney in October and had a great time. Our kids are in a new elementary school this year, and we're really liking it. Emilie is about to turn 11 and is getting her ears pierced, and she's beyond herself with excitement! She loves doing science experiments. Elisabeth is on a basketball team with a local Baptist church and is excited. She is enjoying the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. Alexander just loves life. He is constantly sneaking Christmas decorations and lights out of the basement and into his room. Of course, he does that all year so it's nothing new. He's already decorated our porch with Christmas lights. Benjamin is a terrible, lovable two who has us all wrapped around his finger. Justin is enjoying work and teaching early morning seminary. I teach his same kids on Sundays as their Sunday School teacher, so they probably get an overdose on Hills. We're excited for Christmas. We're going to Sea World and Discovery Cove in Orlando during the holidays, where it will be nice and sunny (we hope). I am SO excited for Lucy! Yeah yeah!

Dear Family,
Yep, Finn is a terrific two-year old and he loves Superman (hmmmm, just like daddy); he told me so on the phone the other day when he happened to hit my speed dial number. We were talking for quite some time when Ammon realized that Finn was actually talking to somebody on the other end of the phone. Kids sure start young with technology these days.
We bought a lot in Castlebury West Estates in Eagle, Idaho (see pictures above). It’s mostly dirt and weeds right now, but it has potential! We hope to move there within two years, depending on the economy. We are looking forward to being neighbors of the Yorgasons.
We spent a few days in Seattle in early October celebrating Finn’s second birthday. Angela did a great job with the decorating – a train theme. It was held at a community center. I think most of the moms there were pregnant with their second babies. The next day we went to a pumpkin patch and selected a few. That was fun. Finn discovered earthworms.
Steve and I have been playing Farmville on Facebook – it’s a lot of fun, and addictive. Steve took over for me while I was in Utah, and now he’s hooked and had to get his own farm. Anybody interested in farming, let me be your farming neighbor!
I had a nice few days visiting in Utah. Glad Lucy and family came down to give us her news in person! Congratulations again – it’s really awesome. Went out for lunch with Mom, Lucy, Emily, Dorothy, and Rachel. And went swimming and hot tubbing at the Marriott where Lucy and fam were staying. Ariane’s high school South Pacific (yay Ariane!) was fun – the students worked hard to put on that production. I haven’t been to a high school play since, well, since I was in high school. We played some games, did some puzzling, visiting, and I even enjoyed raking leaves. Fall is in the air!

We'll take pictures, and hopefully send them out with the next lingo (along with pics from our fun Disney/Sea World trip last month). We'll be staying with John's dad at 5241 South 2100 East., but anything you send (like Christmas cards ) should get to us by using our same Scottish Drive address, and all of our calls will just be automatically sent to my cell phone.

Surprise!
I knew the Lingo was coming up so we told a few and then wanted to make this announcement...
We are having a baby boy March 1st, 2010
So here is the story... Last June I felt extra dizzy working in the Garden. In July I was so tired I thought I had adrenal fatigue, which I have had before and overcame. So when my Sis-in Law said she thought I had pregnancy symptoms I laughed at her because we had tried for so long to have another child and I resolved years ago that we had the children we would have. However I took a pregnancy test just to prove to her she was wrong...I was wrong we were pregnant, 8 weeks actually. I never told my sis-in-law. Dave and I decided to keep it just between the two of us for a while. We had our list of reasons and then we were enjoying the secret so much we decided to wait as long as we could to tell our kids and anyone else. Once I started showing and my walking partner asked Dave if I was pregnant, we knew we had to tell. So the video is how we chose to tell family. First our kids then my Mom (who couldn't believe it, Grandchild #48). We told my sisters when Jennifer happened to be in town and then Dave's family back in Boise. This has been like Christmas for our kids. They are so excited and so happy not to have to wait a whole nine months. We are due March 1st. We have had a few ultra sounds and we have a healthy baby boy on his way. I have felt great. My pregnancies have always been somewhat easy. Getting pregnant was always the issue for us. We are excited and we find it quite ironic that we gave away our crib and car seat in June... The very month we got pregnant. Our family loves the quote, "Come what may and love it" from Elder Wirthlin's mother. I made a vinyl and wood sign and put it up on our wall last spring. My car license plate says "wrthew8" I truly believe what is worth having is worth waiting for. Thanks for sharing in our excitement. We really believe in miracles around here.
We seem to be busy with the same things, cheer for Rachel, Scouts and sports for Nathan and School and art and piano and play friends for Kristen. The housing market makes Dave's business challenging but he handles it well. I am the busy mom still digesting that I will be changing diapers again and staying up late.
I can't believe Emily's house or Grandpa's old house is coming down this week. Take lots of pics and good-luck with all of that!

Loved hearing Lucy’s big news. Can’t believe Sarah is going to be 25 and I’ll be 50 next birthday. Hanlon Family is enjoying Autumn in Snowflake. Soccer season has ended, we’ve had a little snow and fired up the wood stove.
We just enjoyed a fantastic Stake Conference with Elder Robbins. Love and miss you all.

Hi Everyone,
I am blessed to have five happily married daughters. Sisters’ week was so much fun. We had a nice condo that boasted swimming pool and hot tub. We went to Cedar City to see the play “The Secret Garden” and enjoyed the Shakespearean atmosphere. We ate out two meals, but had good kitchen facilities inside the condo. We played board games, watched a video, and responded to the questionnaire Jennifer provided for us which brought on memories and laughter. I had a great time and it surely could have been longer.
It was great to be at Garhett Lee’s baptism. Afterwards we were able to visit with Rick & Reba’s families and enjoy food. It was a good time.
Went to Penny’s ward where she gave a good talk prior to her Mission to Calgary, Canada. And afterwards we enjoyed Tomlinson families and friends and food.
Janet drove me to Bountiful twice of late. Instead of doing 100 Cards ..they now do only 50 at a time, but then it only took two weeks so that’s about the same…except it takes two trips…I am grateful to have this help available. Grateful to the Tomlinsons for their participation in going to the various temples giving Penny the opportunity to enjoy the Temples. Amazing that we can be at the dedication of the Oquirrh Temple while being in our own Stake Houses.
Have been trying to learn the new Family Search. I’ve transferred to PAF 5. The new system seems to just use paper. Rick has been working on the computer from Steve and Jennifer transferring my files over.
How nice that Finn will have a playmate. One of each is a good way to go.
John and Sharron have recently returned from a cruise starting in Copenhagen, to Stockholm, Oslo and Helsinki, to Petersburg, Estionia and Poland and back. John brought me a troll from Norway…Neat.
Summer is moving by quickly…It’s been a good one. Grateful to Casey and Heather for keeping the lawn cut. Thanks Mike for the work on the car covering. Daniel tells me he’s in the school choir…He’s also in the play Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He says he gets killed. Anyway lots of talent in the family.
Have enjoyed the concert downtown…Big Band and Blue grass. Glad for Heather who drives me to these enjoyable things.

Dear Family,
I'm starting classes on Tuesday. This fall I'm taking Quantitative Methods in Geography, Portuguese I, Visual Anthropology, and Economic Geography. I've been wanting to take Economic Geography ever since I found about it and the professor, Julie Graham. Economic Geography studies how economic systems work and impact people in different geographic locations. It also examines capitalism, class, local and alternative economies. The language used to describe these things resonates with me strongly, and I believe it will help me describe my ideals as I work for sustainable and subsidiaristic community. I'm also very excited about taking Portuguese. So much is linked to Brazil and the Amazon, including indigenous rights, sustainability, and the divide between the economic "north" and "south". For me, there are also religious links, since the Soka Gakkai International has been greatly strengthened by the response of the people of Brazil to Dr. Daisaku Ikeda, the President of the Soka Gakkai International. In fact, very recently, Dr. Ikeda was presented with a doctorate by Rohdonia University of Brazil in recognition of his scholastic and active contributions to world peace. I am also looking forward to expanding my understanding of Anthropology, as it has already begun to prove its relevance to my goals. Daniel's starting school too, and working full time. I'm working part time, and we're continuing to be active with developing our Buddhist practice and activities with Soka Gakkai International - USA.
August was a very busy month for both of us. We both went to the Florida Nature and Culture Center near Ft. Lauderdale. FNCC is a conference center owned and operated by the SGI-USA. Daniel attended the Young Men's Conference August 7th through 10th, and I attended the Young Women's Conference August 14th-17th. We both returned from the conferences refreshed and more determined than ever to be victorious in our lives. A week later, I hosted a local meeting especially for young women, and it was the most successful one I held all summer! And last week was the New England Region Young Women's Retreat. 38 Young Women from all over New England participated. This was my third retreat, and it was a nice combination of reunion with people I'd met and worked with before, and new friends. Five people came from my area, and I was encouraged to see how they worked to overcome obstacles to get there.
This summer was a wonderful one for me. Although I was not as active with agriculture as I anticipated, I grew a lot in my faith, as a leader, and in my personal conviction and confidence. I have begun to change some deep-seated attitudes and trends, and I am becoming more capable than ever to fulfill my dreams. So I am ready to part with summer and plunge into the new beginning of this fall!

Hello Family!
Summer is now pretty much officially over, though we're experiencing an unusually warm weather pattern which nobody is complaining about. I love fall more than any other time of the year, but an extra week of warmth is always welcomed in my book. Anyway, the summer was fast and furious for us here in Seattle, we kept busy as usual with work, Finn, playdates, work, and even a few minutes of time for ourselves. No huge house projects this year, though we are getting a Tuff Shed installed the day after tomorrow because our house is now officially out of storage room, and we'll need all the room we can get when Baby #2 shows up in January.
Oh yeah, the baby. Angela is still as pregnant as can be, and things are going well. We're officially having a girl, though the arrival date is still uncertain. Could be January, could be December. We simply can't wait to see what happens! We just found a new midwife to help with the delivery of the baby, and we're rockin' the home birth method this time around. We're pretty excited about that, plus we're stoked that we won't have to deal with driving in all the snow to get to the hospital when the time comes.
Let's see here. In July I was in San Diego for the 40th Comic-Con, me and about 120,000 other people. It was crazy fun, and met some pretty cool celebrities like Jeff Bridges, Brandon Routh, Andy Sandbergh, Kevin Sorbo, and even saw Daughtry perform live on stage at a private party. I don't like Daughtry at all, but he was on American Idol and I guess he's pretty popular. So that was pretty cool. I met Chloe and Lana from the show SMALLVILLE in the airport on the way home. Mom came up to stay with Ang & Finn while I was out of town, they had fun doing crafty stuff and hanging out with Finn.
Speaking of Finn, he's doing great! He turns 2 next month, and he's already about 95% potty trained. We started working with him on it a week ago, and he got it down pretty fast. The only issue we're running into is him pulling his pants up and down. That's the hardest part for him right now, which surprised me. Seems like the other parts of the process would be more difficult to control. Who knew?
He still loves trains, and he's talking up a storm more now than ever before. Though I'm pretty sure only Ang and I know what he's saying most the time, and even then, we're not always sure what he's talking about. He's getting clearer with his words though, and starting to put them together in little short sentences. It's a pretty fun to be around, that's for sure.
Other than that, things are just busy as normal. We're throwing Finn a train-themed birthday party next month, and for Halloween he's gonna be a gnome (like the Travelocity gnome). Ang and I are gonna be the main characters from the movie JUNO, which is fitting considering she'll be about 7.5 months pregnant. Can't wait for Halloween--best holiday EVER!!!

Dear Family,
As I begin writing this letter, it is 9-9-09. Pretty cool. Hope everyone is well.
Angela was very clever in making the announcement about the sex of their baby. Ammon called me up and told me to go to a local bakery and pick up a cake. The cake was white with green frosting that read “Baby Gilbert Is...” We took the cake home, skyped Ammon (so he and Angela could watch us by video cam) then we cut into the cake), which had pink frosting inside. And you know what that means...pink means girl! We are thrilled that Ammon & Angela will be having a girl! Girls’ clothes are so cute.
I made a train table cover for Finn for his second birthday coming up next month. His birthday theme is trains. He sure loves choo-choos.
Spending a few days in 100 degree weather in an air-conditioned condo in St. George with mom and my sisters was awesome – I feel lucky to have such a great family...we can laugh, share stories and experiences, and give each other support. Thank you all for being there for me. Priscilla made each of us a towel wrap for our hair – it’s used to wrap around your wet hair, without having the weight of a huge towel. Works great – I use mine all the time.
We enjoyed a few days in the mountains at Shaver Lake with Steve’s brother and his wife. We went fishing, but they weren’t biting. Guess that’s why it’s called fishing and not catching. We played Hand & Foot, took walks, and enjoyed having someone else cook. It was a very relaxing few days.
I got a couple of mosquito bites the other day and was looking online for a remedy to stop the itching and found a great one. Put rubbing alcohol on the bite and cover it with a piece of scotch tape. It really works. The itching went away and there was little swelling. So next time you get a mosquito bite, try it.
I feel like we’re in the state of Idaho or Utah -- we had a big thunderstorm – very unusual for the Bay Area. They say it was from Hurricane Linda out in the Pacific.
On Saturday we had our annual office summer party -- everyone thought it was going to be a hot day, but that storm threw everybody off. It was only 65 degrees, but at least it wasn't raining for the party. Good food and lots of visiting with the co-workers and families.

Hi Family,
Corn, corn, corn til its coming out of our ears. Ann Neff, the lady I work with at school, lives in Shumway. She invited us to come get a bunch of corn on Labor Day, which we did and froze a bunch of it. They also gave us a huge watermelon. She went up to Santaquin, where she and Allen served a mission a few years ago, to get a load of Utah peaches. Looking forward to that too. Isaiah and I enjoyed the Sweet Corn Parade in Taylor on Saturday morning. Cutest little home-town parade ever, included the scouts marching, three Taylor ward floats. Corn was the theme of course, and the high school marching band and cheerleaders. And of course, the fire trucks. As soon as the parade ended the rain started, but the festival including the rodeo went on as scheduled.
Soccer season and Hyrum is on the high school JV team. That means two-hour practice every week day. As a 14 year old summer college student Hyrum earned 6 credits and earned an A and a B in Humanities and U. S. history from1877. Bryan is having a wonderful time in junior high. He is serving on the student council and he is a self-made Lobo mascot at the football games. He likes music and being in show choir. I'm looking forward to the first show. James is in his senior year. On the first day of school his response to, "How was your first day back?" He replied, "repetitive." I guess it would be after 12 years. Isaiah made his teacher's day when at the end of the school day he exclaimed, "School Rocks!"

Hey there Lingoers,
Well, school is back in full swing, and life is back to the crazy busy way that I like it. The biggest news for me is that after 5+ years, I am not working as a projectionist anymore. It's sad but true, this weekend I worked my last shift in the projection booth and they will be spending the next few days tearing out the old film system, and installing the all new high tech digital system. It's pretty exciting, but that also means, no need for projectionists. After a lot of indecisiveness, I decided to take my boss up on his offer to move downstairs to the admissions desk, and work weekends. A very generous offer since my pay will not be cut down to match the other downstairs employees (shhhh, don't tell them, they might get jealous) but the timing works out perfectly, since school is keeping me busy, and I am at rehearsals almost every night.
School is great. The funny thing is, despite being so close to graduation, I have somehow managed to get one of the funnest, easiest semesters I have ever had. I dread next semester, but as for now my schedule consists of two choir classes, voice lessons, music theory, two ballet classes, guitar class, and a senior art seminar class (which is intended to teach graduating art students how to make a living being an artist). This semester looks more like that of a music or dance major, ha ha ha. But, I am still an Art major. I actually wanted to take another art class or two, but all the classes I needed were at the same times as my choir classes, which I need for my minor. So as for now I am on track to graduating in the spring (and crossing my fingers).
The other thing taking up my time is, as mentioned play practice. I started rehearsing for a production of Jekyll and Hyde in Lehi City, which will be running in Oct. The show is an awesome musical thriller, dark and intense, perfect for Halloween. Which coincidentally is our closing night. I am so excited for this show. Our director is amazing, and very talented, and this is one of the most professional casts I have ever worked with, despite all being amateurs. I am having tons of fun with it, and I am making some really great friends.
Despite my lack of sleep due to late rehearsals and early classes, Life is great. I'm happy, healthy, and busy. Just the way I like it!

I don't even remember the last time I sent to the Lindgren Lingo. But here is our family update. Our little girl ZuriAnn Berlyn Kay has just turned 1 year old and she is walking & talking. I (Misty) graduated from BYU in April in Dietetics and I am currently working at the County health department in WIC (Women, Infant, and Child) as a breast feeding peer counselor part time. Eric (my fabo hubby) is in school trying to finish his degree in Computed Tomography (basically CT scans). Life is great.

Dear Family,
We’ve had a wonderful two months since the last Lingo. Most of that time the focus has been on the temple! Kevin, Penny, Marcus, Ariane, Alan, and I were able to participate in one way or another during the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house until the end of July. I put together a large binder of our stake’s experiences with the temple and the open house for the stake. I really enjoyed that project. To top it all off, five (of the 15 in the Alan Tomlinson family) were able to attend the Saturday morning session of the dedication in August, in the temple. That was an extra special, spiritual experience for us.
Since Penny received her endowments in the Jordan River Temple, we have gone to 9 different temples. It is so great to have so many in Utah to go to. It has been good missionary preparation for Penny and has opened up extra opportunities to get together with our children even more so as we share this spiritually strengthening time together. Penny had her “farewell” August 30 and gave a very good talk in church. Many friends and family members came that day showing their love and support, which was so appreciated.
This week Penny will be set apart by our stake president and then we’ll “drop her off at the curb” of the MTC. Someone told me it will be like dropping her off at school… like the first day of kindergarten. We’ll miss her, but know that she will become a better person because of this experience and will certainly do much good for the Lord’s Kingdom. We think often of you who have gone through this experience yourself, either as the parent or the missionary. Thank you for your example.

Marcus had his 3 wisdom teeth extracted. He’s glad the last of the major dental work is finally in the past!
In August our family attended the annual Tomlinson family reunion, held in Island Park, Idaho this year.
Following the reunion, I got to spend 4 days with my mother and four sisters in St. George. What fabulous time we had together…. It was a good thing we didn’t plan many activities because we filled the time very quickly just talking around the table!! I’m really glad we take time out to do this together once in awhile.
Ariane and Alan went to the ward youth conference at Camp Williams where they went through some interesting challenge courses.
Alan and I saw the “Scarlet Pimpernel” again at the Hail Center Theater.
Ariane, Marcus, Daniel, Jason (and Heather) went back to school, and Penny quit work and moved home.
The last Saturday of the month and the first Saturday in September we worked with Jason and his family in their large yard and got paid in peaches, onions, and zucchini, besides the fun we have being together anyway. It was the perfect payment for our efforts.
After encouragement from her acting-loving siblings, Ariane tried out for the high school’s musical. Now she finds herself extra busy with play rehearsals before and after school as she learns her part with the chorus and dancers for “South Pacific,” to be performed the first part of November. Daniel is also in a musical in Provo, “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” and Becky is directing the play, “Wait Until Dark,” at the Barn. These two Halloween plays will be performed appropriately in October.

Daniel is also in a musical in Provo, “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” and Becky is directing the play, “Wait Until Dark,” at the Barn. These two Halloween plays will be performed appropriately in October.

Hello family!
Hope you are all doing well happy and healthy. We're loving fall out here in Raleigh. The leaves haven't started changing but when they do it is a sight to be seen.
About two months ago my boss at work went on vacation to Miami Florida and brought me back a picture he snapped of a real street: "Lindgren Avenue." I remembered to put it away so I could scan it, include it here, and then talk about how cool I thought it was, but then I haven't been able to remember where the photo is.
After doing some recent research on google I found out Lindgren Avenue leads to the Miami Zoo which has the address of 1 Zoo Blvd Miami, FL 33177. Google that address and zoom out a little and you will see lovely Lindgren Avenue. So if you are in Miami Florida, make a pilgrimage. I hope to check it out in person one day.
As far as news going on with us, not a lot. We were able to take some mini summer vacations to the beach, the Appalachian mountains, and Atlanta over the past two months. We also got to go to a family reunion which was a lot of fun. Good to see the siblings, nephews, nieces, and parents. Work is going fine for both of us and were enjoying teaching primary. It's fun to have college football back and a lot of fun to see BYU play on TV. Cheyney says we get to go to the National Championship if BYU plays in it. So keep BYU football in your prayers, hopefully behind prayers for the poor and needy and important stuff like that, but still in there.

Hi Family, Hi everyone. Well, here we are .... school's back in session already. Casey just started as a sophomore at Brighton High School! Unbelievable isn't it? It makes me feel pretty old, and brings back memories of when I attended school there. He's been driving with his Learners Permit for about a month now, and is actually a pretty good driver. He's driving our old Toyota pick-up ( the same vehicle he came home from the hospital in when he was a baby). Anyway, he's liking high school so far. He's playing lacrosse again, and having a lot of fun with his friends.
Mitch is in the 5th grade, and is really excited that his best friend Soren transferred to his school this year. He's also in 11 year old scouts, and Uncle John is his scout leader. They just had a fun camp out in his back yard on Friday night.

Travis goes to pre-school four days a week now. The bus picks him up and takes him to Quail Hollow. He loves it! And I love his teachers there. They are great, and he's made a lot of progress being there.
John and I are having lots fun (Not!) trying to get our house up and going. Our plans came back from the city with a small list of things that had to be rectified like some minor engineering issues with the deck, and just some other stuff that they wanted us to show on the plan. So that went back to Wasatch Custom to deal with, now that's done and ready to be re-submit. In the mean time, the fire marshall looked at it and said we have to have another fire hydrant on our street or put a sprinkler system in our house. That freaked us out for a bit, but after talking to them we found out their map hadn't shown a second one that really is less than 250 ft away, now they want us to call the water company to make sure there's enough pressure in the hydrants. Why is that our responsibility?! In the meantime, we're still out getting bids so we can get our construction loan, and the list goes on and on. It's a pain, but we're still keeping our fingers crossed that someday it will happen for us.
We're also planning on going to Disneyland next month with some friends of ours and their family. It was something we planned back in January, so amongst everything else going on in our lives..... maybe it's what we need. A good vacation!

Dear Family,
This time there’s something to crow about…namely the cruise. The Princess Caribbean which vacation started on the 17th of May.
With the accompaniment of Rick, Reba and Heather. we flew from Salt Lake to Dallas and from there to Puerto Rico on American Airlines -- all in one day.
On May 18 we were in St. Thomas, on the 19th in Antigua, two days at Sea, on the 22nd in Beautiful Bermuda, 23rd at Sea and on the 24th in New York. And from there flew back to Salt Lake.
I have a certificate that says I went for a dive. Went in a submarine to the bottom of the bed in St. Thomas, US, Virgin Islands. We saw fish, corral and sang the song about the Yellow Submarine.
I guess one might say the highlight of the cruise was the food. One could eat all day long either buffet style or in the restaurants served by Waiters with all the elegance one would want. So we did both.
Three swimming pools and hot tubs were available…one where we watched television on a big screen, one where we could hear and see the Caribbean Band…and the last but not least a pool where only adults could partake.
Entertainment at night of dancing was spectacular…also we did go to Line dancing, TV Game shows, auctions of paintings, acupuncture, which Reba took advantage of. Our cabin was comfortable and we didn’t have to move our luggage each day…
We went on a ferry to an outing to Bermuda…and then went on a bus trip…I thought Bermuda lovely with the water so green and blue against the hills of homes with white-tiled roofs. I appreciate the care given by Rick & Reba...without them I never would have had the opportunity. It was a great break.
After we were home a few days…My siblings had the Christmas get together...Blaine and Annamarie took me to Manti. Gerda and Hellmut had a nice luncheon for us. We visited the cemetery that lies kitty corner from the Manti Temple. Hellmut showed us the tombstone he had put there for future use…with large lettering of DOELLING engraved on it. Hellmut is in charge of the Family History Place there so we visited there.
After being with my brother…Blaine, Annamarie and I drove on to St. George. Blaine and Ann have a nice home there. It’s in a subdivision where people 55 and over live….kitty corner is a club house with indoor and outdoor swimming pools. A floating dance floor, a computer room, exercise room, etc….Annamarie drove me around in their golf cart. It was a fun time…we went and saw a movie, ate out, played games, etc.
It was fun to visit with Steve Rankin. He brought their computer to update mine; they got a more modern one.
Lucy brought Rachel and Nathan to EFY so got a chance to do a little visiting, however short.
Congratulations to Ammon and Angela on their forthcoming event.
Today Jenny and children along with Janet came for a visit…it was good to visit with them…I’m impressed with the children…very smart…It was fun to talk with Caleb.
We just got the new Family Search program…I’m rushing to get cards made in the old way…The new way has to be studied. I hate change. Pretty tough to teach an old dog new tricks.
Summer is upon us…been a great cool June…

Hi Lindgrenites!
It's been quite awhile since our last update--mostly cause I dropped the ball last time and didn't contribute to the Lingo. But now that I'm back in the saddle all is well and right with the world. First off, in case you haven't heard yet, we're expecting kid Numero Dos in January! Very exciting news, though I'm not sure where we're gonna get the time or the energy to juggle around another baby, but I guess that's why we're young, right? We won't find out the sex until sometime in August, so by next Lingo... we'll know if it'll be another rambunctious little boy or a little girl. We're stoked either way.
In other news, we spent the July 4th holiday with Angela's family in Ocean Shores, a little town on the Washington coast. It was warm, and Finn had a ton of fun playing in the sand and the freezing cold water. Finn is doing great--his favorite word right now is NO, but he also likes CHOO-CHOO (as in trains), CA (car), MA, DA, and BEE
(plane). He loves trains right now--I've never seen a kid so obsessed with any one thing than Finn is obsessed with trains. He's big into Thomas the Train, but he digs on just about any train he can get a hold of or see while looking out the car window. Lucky for him (and for us) there are quite a number of trains here in Seattle.
Finn's into all things that go--including cars, planes, boats, etc., as well as rocks and water (and throwing rocks into water). We're slowly (but surely) getting him potty trained, and he's definitely getting the hang of it. Maybe when Gilbert Part II comes he'll be all trained and we'll go back to changing diapers at square one. Better one set than two, I suppose!
Spring was unusually warm for Seattle (30 days without rain--a new record), and July was shaping up to be better as well, but it's cooling off again for your typical chilly summer gray day. Angela started working full-time at her job, and has been doing so for over a month now. It was quite the transition, and time is scarcer than ever before, but we're making it work for the time being until Gilbert Part II comes in the picture. I still have the job I loath more than anything, but since it's slim pickings out there, I guess I'll be stuck for a while longer.
I'm not sure how I can top being pregnant and trains, so I guess I'll just stop there. The summer should be super busy per usual, though we have no big trips planned per se. Mom's coming to visit while I'm in San Diego at the Comic Con International for a few days, and we're going to have a long weekend on the Oregon coast in August. Hope everyone has a fun summer, stay cool, apply that sunscreen, and I can't wait to hear about your adventures.

Dear Family,
It has been a great, wild ride into summer this year. It began very wet, now the heat is just starting to kick in, meaning the grass has begun to die. (Maybe one of these days I will remember to water BEFORE it turns brown.) But we have had success in other areas outside. We got a swing-set and the kids love it, they laughed for over five minutes the first time they played on the teeter-totter; ah, the simple joys of life. Our garden is doing fabulous, not only are the weeds lush and green, but we actually have a crop of leaf-hoppers and ants to complement our produce. I think we have already harvested more this year in just peas than everything combined last year. Okay maybe not that much, but last year was a terribly small harvest, the best things that grew were volunteer squash and sunflowers (I enjoyed the seeds for months). We have also made progress on our trend-bucking, low-water-use side yard. We bought over 75 plants, at a deep discount from the teaching greenhouse on campus (yeah for a college town and "cheap" student labor). Ironically, it rained for three weeks after we planted these "low water use" plants.
Other excitement, the kids now have bunk beds. I think that first night is the only time the kids have ever asked if it was bedtime yet.
July 3rd, we went to the Oquirrh Mountain temple open house. It is a beautiful building and I am always impressed with the quality and artistry involved in building a temple. When we were going in, Becky asked the kids how they felt, trying to impress on them the reverence and spirit associated with the temple. Katherine responded appropriately, "I feel good, I feel the spirit," with her hand on her chest. We looked at David and asked, "How do you feel?" He shrugged his shoulders and bluntly stated, "I feel fine." They both enjoyed the beauty of the temple and they have talked about it since. I am glad we were able to take them. We also took the kids to the zoo and wore us all out. A great day, and the kids loved seeing all the different animals they have read about or seen on TV.
Overall, we have managed to keep ourselves adequately busy at work, in the yard, with summer classes and soon with theater, as Becky is gearing up to direct "Wait until Dark" at the Old Barn. Auditions are next week and then she will be busy with rehearsals and performances several nights a week until Halloween, which is closing night. We included a few pictures of our summer adventures.

Hello All, Wuz up , from James.
We've been pretty busy the last month. At the first of June, we went to a week long financial conference in California, then to Zions National Park & Bryce Canyon for a week, then Lynnette's sister & 3 kids visited our house for a week, then Lynnette went to Saint George for a week. whew... Now we are back home figuring out where we left off a month ago, and where to start first.
We are embarking on some endeavors. We are studying the stock market. Very interesting and much to understand. Additionally, we are learning a concept "Tax Lein Certificates". Since we last wrote, Lynnette began conducting home food parties with company ~Tastefully Simple~ ( www.TastefullySimple.com/web/LTomlinson ). I hope this is ok to say... call me to support my food parties. James and I could come and visit... Also since we last wrote, we have been moved from Primary Teachers to Lynnette as Relief Society 2nd counselor & James as Elders Quorum Secretary. We enjoy these positions as they allow us to grow and stretch ourselves in a variety of ways.
At the same time, things are much the same...
Plugging away at cleaning, de-cluttering, and organizing the house. (Lynnette hired a home organizer to help provide some guidance and focus). We desire to enjoy our home, without unnecessary items. Additionally, we need to thoroughly clean the entire house to get rid of nasty carpet beetles. I've read these beetles can be a challenge to overcome, due to the extreme cleaning. Wish me/us luck...
James cuddling and teasing the cats... which they absolutely love according to James. Hmm, I wonder about that! Lynnette attempting to do a hundred things in a day. (absolutely it's possible ) James still enjoying Westech. He loses his benefit of 'every other Friday off' for two weeks in July due to juggling vacations with everyone. He really enjoys having those extra Fridays off. Lastly, each day we still say to each other.. what’s for dinner, I don't know, what do you want... and more often than not we take out a frozen burrito and have that. lol
( this is a long standing joke for us, as Lynnette has many, many cookbooks that sit upon the shelf-and are kinda used )

Dear Family,
Can you believe it’s July!?
In May we had a nice visit from Ammon, Angela and Finn. Finn took a tumble off my deck and landed on a jagged dead root from an old bush that we hadn’t been able to remove. Luckily it missed his eye – but when he was brought back into the house he was not happy and insisted on going back outside on the deck. Kids are so resilient. He announced his family’s happy news when he came into the room wearing a shirt that reads “I’m the BIG brother.” We are thrilled to soon be grandparents again. Angela is just getting past the first trimester and the morning sickness has lessened.
In June Steve took a road trip to SLC and on to Boise then Portland... (he went solo since he gets more vacation time than I do). We updated our computer so he brought mom and Dorothy our old ones (recycling). Steve enjoyed visiting for a few hours with mom and Emily & John. Then up to Boise (with Rachel for company) to see Lucy & Dave and to check out a lot that we are interested in. He then went to a car show with his childhood buddy (Gary) that lives in Portland.
This year we have our share of squirrels – attracted by our loaded apple tree I’m sure (not ripe till the fall). We also had an Opossum in our recycling – it got its paw caught in a can of chili (empty, no chili). After struggling all night long, Steve gave him his freedom as he put a long stick into the can allowing the opossum to pull out his paw (its toenail was caught between the lid and the bottom of the can). He was not hurt.
Work has been getting busier lately as I now work for a litigation attorney and he is preparing for trial. And I took on an additional attorney as well. So I’m happier to be busier than not.
There has been threats of another BART strike – which would be a holy nightmare – but for now it has been averted. Seems like they’re never satisfied and never have enough money.
I got a new hairdo – a few layers and curls – not a perm, just a change.
Strange weather today – it was in the 90s and then all these clouds came in and now (this evening) its actually raining!
Too bad about Michael Jackson dying so young. He truly was a brilliant artist.
Looking forward to seeing Lucy in Boise next week and Angela and Finn in Seattle. Am also looking forward to seeing my sisters in St. George.
