Happy New Year to all my dear families. What a neat way to start with the birth of Lucas Webb Lindgren in Colorado Springs. Congratulations!
I would like to thank all of you for the nice family pictures you sent. For the nice book of the Family Reunion from Dorothy, for the DVD of the Mikado and audio cassette from Heather, for the chocolate covered almonds from John and Emily, for the candle and potpourri from Sharron and John, for the soup from Justin and Wendy, for the slippers from Ryan and Cheyney, for the lovely cookie box from the Bosleys, for the gift certificate from Marty and Janet and for all the love sent. For the pictures sent from Tom and Marci, Chris and Heidi Lee, and the yummy chocolates, and the Hanlons’ pictures.
Just had another episode with the eye doctor. Got a shot this time. No fun. Doctor is pretty adamant about getting the right eye relieved from cataract....So when I get the courage..........

I’ve recently written another episode in the history of Martha Lindgren... as follows:
At eleven years of age, I thought the radio was the cat's meow. I would come home from school, lay on the floor next to the speakers and listen to such programs as Little Orphan Annie with Daddy Warbucks, Amos and Andy, Inner Sanctum (a thriller) and on Saturday mornings, the fairy tale program "Let’s Pretend." The radio provided us with the news of the time. We heard Hitler's booming voice. Sports events were also broadcast. Joe Lewis, the famous heavyweight champion was a top notch item. In 1936 he was scheduled to fight Max Schmeling, the German champion boxer. My father was glued to the radio and, German that he was, he rooted for Max Schmeling who knocked out Joe Lewis in the twelfth round. What excitement. Here was Max Schmeling, the German of the Arian Race. Hitler was popping his buttons as Max returned to Germany (look for write ups in GOOGLE). Some time after that, we again listened to the radio for the rematch of those two when Joe Lewis knocked Max out in the first round. Max Schmeling died at age 99. After the war, Max and Lewis became good friends. Max paid for part of the funeral expenses of Joe Lewis and was also a pall barer. Max Schmeling is part of the Raoul Wallenberg foundation because he hid two Jewish boys from the Nazis. For more information...check out Google. Something of interest is that Max rode the Hindenburg back and forth to Yankee Stadium. He was not on the Hindenburg when it crashed in New Jersey. Well there you have it.

Hi Family,
We’re all doing alright here in AZ. Enjoyed Thanksgiving with James and Krista and her boyfriend, James. Enjoyed Christmas the same. We had a white and balmy December. We have a white January so far too as we woke up this morning to a thin covering. James seems to be loving school at ASU. I think college is a comfortable place for him.

Bryan has landed the part of Oliver Hix, a baritone in the high school musical, The Music Man. To be performed here mid-March. There is a double cast. Bryan was only one of three freshmen to get a part. They stay very busy with practices Tues- Fri evenings. They don’t start til after mutual activities on Wednesday. Three talented LDS ladies volunteer their time to make sure a high school musical happens every year here since the budget cut it out. The musicals have continued to be some of the best in high school I’ve seen.
Isaiah and Riley received bikes for Christmas. Isaiah didn’t know he knew how to ride a bike before… he never really had the opportunity much since he gave up several years ago after James spent some time trying to teach him something he loved. This time it was the easiest time teaching I’ve ever done (almost like potty training if you wait long enough they do it on their own anyway)…one three step run behind by me and he said, “okay, mom let go.” And I did and he was off. He has not fallen off yet…no bumps or scratches and rides as far as his den meeting about a mile away past the temple. So he has gained some independence. Krista gave him a cell phone, so I have that added security when he takes off like that. Riley also enjoys his bike with training wheels. Hyrum is patiently or maybe impatiently hanging in there, getting straight A’s, earning money at McDonald’s and spending it on whatever he wants and/or needs.
Work, Stake Primary, and the family keep me busy and happy. In my leisure time I do family research indexing the Catholic diocese records from Chicago. Jim keeps busy with work and family as well. He helps in scouting, works as an assistant in High Priests, and is getting close to his teacher certification with student teaching (social studies) starting at the junior high in March.

Heather and Daniel are in a one act play called "Why I Am A Bachelor" at the Valley Center Playhouse in Lindon, Utah, January 20, 23, 28, February 3, 6, and 11.

Looking at these pictures in order you can see that we started off
with the Christmas stocking gifts, which should have been done before church,
but we were so busy getting ready for church that we looked at the gifts inside
the stockings more closely after church.
While we were preparing lunch and waiting for Jason's family and James and
Lynnette to arrive, we opened the pajama gifts. We couldn't do it Christmas Eve
night because Penny was at work. So this was a good time to do it. Then they
didn't change into them until after lunch.
Lunch preparation was delayed a little while we talked to Marcus by way of
Skype for a little over an hour.
I guess we forgot to get myself in the lunch pictures, but of course I was
there. Just as we finished, Kevin called and so everyone took their turns on
the phones to listen and/or visit for about an hour or so. It was perfect
timing. We think it was around 3 or 3:30 by the time we actually got started
with the gift giving which lasted the typical 3 hours or so.
When Becky placed Benjamin in his brand new chair, he looked so cute, we had to
take a picture of just him.
We sang Happy Birthday to Daniel just before we ate dinner and then he opened
his birthday gifts after that. We never did gather together for a traditional
group picture.

Dear Family,
We’re enjoying our mild winter in that we haven’t had to worry much about snowy, slick roads and blinding snowstorms. We’ll never get used to freezing temperatures though; however I’m glad to live in a region that goes through the four seasons every year.
It was nice to have Thanksgiving at our home and have Mom enjoy it with us. It seems like most of the time in the past we spent Thanksgiving Day at Mom’s or Alan’s brother’s home in Centerville because they had a bigger place to seat everyone. Our kitchen hasn’t grown any larger and probably won’t any time soon, and even though we had to squeeze a little, it was very nice to have our family here for that day.
When Jason started his new job in South Jordan the beginning of December, he spent the weeknights at our house and went back to Hyde Park on the weekends for two and a half weeks.
It was nice for us to visit with him on those few nights he came home early enough to visit. But for him and Becky, things suddenly became extra busy all through December as they packed and prepared to move, got ready for Christmas, and waited out the time for the children to finish school until just before Christmas. Then Jason rented a truck and moved his family and most of their stuff on the 23rd. As soon as they sell their home they’ll buy a new house somewhere in Salt Lake Valley and move out of her parent’s home. So if any of you know of someone looking for a great place to buy and live in Cache Valley, have them contact Jason. Now with our grandchildren living closer, we get to see them more often. Another bonus is that I get to be Katherine’s piano teacher. It will be fun to teach my granddaughter who is so excited to learn.
Ariane successfully finished her first college semester at UVU. We’re proud of both her and Penny for earning such good grades. Penny is now working on her last semester at UVU.
When Kevin left the MTC, his first mission area assignment was Mesa…. he’s still there (6 ½ months), but has had two different companions. He expects to be transferred to a new area next week at transfer time.
Marcus was transferred to Eastbourne the beginning of June (over 7 months) and has also had two different companions. He also expected he’d be transferred to a new area the same week transfer week as Kevin, but he got a little bit of a surprise. Both he and his companion were transferred out of the area 1 ½ weeks early. They were given about a day’s notice. Marcus has told me in the past about how his mission president seems to like to take the missionaries by surprise and shake things up now and again. Marcus is now serving in St. Austell, the far west side of England, several hours away from where he was. We’re proud of our good missionary sons and how their testimonies have grown, their desire to faithfully serve the Lord, and their hard work in spite of the frustrations that are naturally a part of being a missionary.
Christmas time was wonderful. It was great to have a house full of “children” again for a week or so. I really liked having the Christmas Eve party at Mom’s house in the middle of the day. Being home early that evening was a bonus. Too bad it doesn’t work that way every year. And what a fun party with so many! It was great to see all those who came to this “mini-reunion.”
It was fun to read the predictions of those that contributed to this list. I hope we’re all successful in following through with our New Year’s resolutions and may your “predictions” come true.

Dear Family,
We just returned from Seattle where we spent a few days having our Christmas with Ammon & family and celebrating Harper’s second birthday. Finn and Harper are a joy, and have SO much energy. We spent a lot of time playing and reading books, and some of the same books over and over again – can’t get too much of Dora, can we Harper?! I’m also getting a little better at Ticket to Ride.
A cute story about Finn and Ammon. Finn wanted sugar on his toast. Ammon told Finn he couldn’t have sugar. After going back and forth about it, Ammon told Finn he could have jam. After Finn had eaten about half his toast, he said, you know Dad, jam has sugar in it. Finn doesn't miss a beat.
Well, we did it! Moved into our dream house a week before Christmas. It’s so nice to be Home! We’re slowly unpacking and organizing – I think it’ll take us till spring. Then the fun begins of working in the yard and organizing the gardening shed. We look forward to that, but right now we’re enjoying being in a warm house with the only reason to go outside is to get the mail. We’re experiencing a real winter (a dry one, but definitely a cold one). The frost, and little bit of snow that we had last week, still lie on our back hill and front yard.
We enjoyed celebrating Christmas with Lucy & family, playing duets with Rachel, and Jenga and Pit on our big dining room table! Lucy made me a “Pantry” sign for my pantry door and it looks great! And because it was too close to Christmas to bother with getting a tree and decorations up, she brought us a little tree and gave us “scrabble” game ornaments that she made. Thank you Lucy for being my sister, neighbor and friend! So thankful for the Yorgasons!
Wishing 2012 to be a happy and productive year for all!

Yo what up family! Happy 2012!
Here's an update on the Gilbert's: December was a fun-filled holiday month for us, kick-starting with putting up plenty of Christmas decorations in the front yard and lights on the side of the house. Weather wise, December was a very mild month in Seattle, which was nice not to have to deal with the craziness of snow, or the freezing cold, or anything like that.
Finn is having fun going to pre-school three days a week and Harper is having fun in her first year at pre-school once a week. Finn's also been getting his soccer skills sharpened with soccer class once a week, and in October/November, got back into swimming lessons. Swim lessons will kick-start again soon for Finn as well as Harper (this will be her first stab at swim lessons), getting ready for the summer time fun of pools, swimming, and water.
My job's going fine and dandy at Microsoft, busy as ever but more or less fun and enjoyable. Angela's enjoying being home with the kiddos, taking them on play dates, to school, on field trips, and everything else she manages to pack into the day. Just like the cheesy movie, I don't know how she does it.
In January Harper celebrated her 2nd birthday, which was a blast and a half. She's getting to be quite the thrill-seeking adventurer of the family, jumping off the furniture, wrestling with Finn, and holding her own when it comes to playing with the older kids. She definitely keeps us on our toes, but cracks us up in the process. Hard to believe she's already 2! Pretty nuts.
Mom and Steve came to visit for the first week of January, going to soccer practice, and celebrating Harper's birthday and Christmas all at the same time. The kid's had fun playing with their grandparents and I had fun having built-in babysitters and going out to the movies, a luxury I rarely get a chance to partake in these days.
Today we got over 3 inches of snow with the promise to have even more snow dumped on us as the week goes on. It's been fun playing in the snow--but driving, commuting, or having to do anything outside the home (or the front yard) is not so fun. People here still don't know how to drive in the snow and believe it or not, the front wheel drive awesomeness of our mini-van
doesn't handle all that well in adverse road conditions either. Ah, how we're missing our old 4WD!

Dear Lingo,
Thank you for your contributions, even if they are intermittent like ours. This time we have some news.
First, we have moved to Salt Lake. Yes it is difficult leaving beautiful Cache Valley and the friends we made there (over 10+ years), but the Lord has other plans for us.
I, Jason, started a new job in Salt Lake, hence the move. The company is called Ryan and is a tax consulting company working with very large businesses (fortune 500 types). It is new and exciting and the opportunities look to be great; I love it so far. I am also 3/4 done with the CPA exam. I have one section left that I plan to take in early April. If all else goes well, I plan to get my license this summer, yeah! I will then be official, but still feel lost and inexperienced - of course don't we all feel that way at times.
Katherine and David have obviously changed schools and are now attending Terra Linda Elementary, the same school Becky attended when she was young. They have transitioned very quickly and have already made friends in the neighborhood. It is nice to have resilient kids to make the move easier. That is the big news. Other than that, we are still loving life and learning as we go. After four kids you would think we figured a few things out, but no, each one is different.
Dorothea has begun communicating, surprising us with the things she says. Benjamin is barely rolling, and loves to laugh. It probably helps that we all love to hear it, so he is often tickled and played with.
We love you all. It was good to see many of you over Christmas.
