Dear Family,
Can’t say I’ve nothing to write about…have had a good summer. The highlight being the trip to Nauvoo with Rick, Reba and Heather. Priscilla drove us to the airport in Emily’s car. Priscilla was visiting with me along with her two youngest. She was here for the Genealogy Convention in Provo. After going to the security rigmarole and then waiting...we had a good flight to St. Louis. Since we got there in the late afternoon we stayed at a hotel. In the morning we went to the famous Arch…where we looked down on the city and the muddy Mississippi. In the afternoon we took a boat trip. From here Rick rented a car and drove to Independence …we stayed at a bed and breakfast place there--a fun antique collection home. Heather and I slept in a humongous bed of bygone era. We had a fun breakfast served on antique type dishes.
Some of the places we drove to was Far West. There is a new bookstore down the road…called a Country Store…where we enjoyed shop-looking. We also went to Adam Andi Ahmen (sp).
The missionary told us the Church has 3,500 acres…which are mowed by the men missionaries as their wives do extracting.
Rick and Misty were so kind to us. We stayed with them while we were in Nauvoo. We enjoyed little Ember.
Of course one of the highlights was April. What a talented young lady. She was at the theatre in the visitors center, at the outdoor show which formerly was located near the river but is now inland. She was in the big pageant which we saw twice…also in a cute play at the indoor theatre. We had a nice visit with her after one of the shows…she is so fun. She told us her mission was a four-month one.
We saw several of the places that Nauvoo had to offer. One was a house near the Temple where people could wait who were not able to go to the temple while their people attended. There was a couple there that showed us the rooms; they were from Manti and knew Hellmut and Gerda. They also had been Temple workers there. We did go to a session in the Nauvoo Temple.
Went on a side trip to Hannibal and took a boat trip. We also visited Mark Twain’s legacy.
It was a great time…thanks Rick & Reba.
Not long after returning home…I made a fun discovery in the family history field…through Family Search, I connected to our direct liner some Norwegian ancestors in the Ancestral File…and went back to the 1200’s -- also found descendants of the above…also found a new relative with whom we have same ancestor. See the enclosed chart.
Clogging has come back…I’m directing but haven’t been performing…leaving it to the young grandmothers.
A rat’s nest was made under the hood of my car…which had to be taken care of before the car passed emissions. Life doesn’t always run smooth.

Hello Family!
This is just a "brief" note because I might not be able to write my usual LONG letter before the deadline. We have been having "issues" with our computer and internet service for the past two months, so I find myself here at the library a lot more often so I can use the internet. Hopefully we'll have the luxury of having our internet at home again real soon.
In July our family went on vacation, beginning with the Tomlinson reunion near Island Park, Idaho, and then finished out the week in Yellowstone, camping at the Norris campground. Late on the night of July 24th, I got out of the car, stepped back and tripped on the log parking barrier, so I caught my fall by landing on my left hand. Long story short: I broke my wrist and wore a cast for 6 1/2 weeks. It was taken off just last Monday and now my wrist and hand are much more sore than all of those 6 weeks because I'm trying to restore my whole range of movement again. Kind of like having sore muscles after exercising muscles that haven't been excerised in a long time.
Last weekend Alan and I went to Mudlake and Monteview, Idaho, for his 40th year high school reunion. It was fun reminiscing as we went to the home and area Alan grew up and the area he went to school. It was also nice seeing people we having seen in ages and being able to visit with them again.
I still have 4 kids at home: Kevin (because he ran out of money and had to come home after living in Provo), Penny (who is working as a CNA at a care center in Sandy and taking the bus to Orem twice a week to attend UVU), Marcus (who takes the bus to Salt Lake Community College every day), and Ariane (who is a sophomore at CHHS).
We are excited about the announcement that we'll be having our 3rd grandchild in February, a new brother or sister for Katherine and David.
We love you and hope all is well. Isn't September a beautiful time of year?

Hello Family,Hope everyone is enjoying the last few weeks of summer!
Steve and I went fishing (with Steve's brother and his wife) at Courtright Reservoir in the Sierras. We caught 8 trout and took home 3 for dinner. And we played a few umpteen games of Hand & Foot.
I enjoyed watching some of the Olympic Games and the impressive (and expensive) Opening and Closing Ceremonies in Beijing.
We've been going Wii Sports and Wii Fit crazy! We're getting good at some of these "sports" and getting great exercise while we're at it -- along with a little competition. In fact, we had a Wii Bowling night with some friends. Surprising how sore your muscles are the next day!
We felt a 4.0 earthquake a couple of weeks ago; it was 14 miles away and 10 miles below the earth -- reminds us that we live in earthquake country and could be taken off guard at any moment. Always an overwhelming feeling that mother nature is indeed powerful.
We had a fun day Saturday taking a tour through the Sand Mines at Black Diamond Mine Regional Park with Jeff and two of his sons, Caleb and Tucker. Very interesting stuff. And fun listening to two very inquisitive boys. I also learned that the safest place to be during an earthquake is under the ground, like in a cave, or in the Sand Mines. In fact, you wouldn't even be able to feel it since the energy of the earthquake would go right through the earth (such as through the mountain) and it's energy would be release at the surface, which is why people, that are on the earth's surface, feel the quake. Think of it as being one of the center marbles in that steel marble gadget that businessmen have on their desks and you pull out the one marble on the end and let it go and the marble on the other end swings out -- same principal. The one end is the earthquake, the other end is the earth's surface -- the marbles in the middle don't move. There, you learned something new today.
We've been visiting Finn "live" on webcam. Sometimes he moves so fast he's a little blurry, but it has been great fun to see him when we can't be there live. And we clap our hands and wave at each other. Isn't technology great?!!
Congratulations to Misty & Eric on the birth of their little girl, ZuriAnn Berlyn Kay. And congratulations to Dave on turning the big 4-0!

Had a great trip to Utah just before school started again. I was fortunate to be able to attend the Family History and Genealogy Conference at BYU for credit. It was also nice to be able to bring Bryan and Isaiah with me and have them taken care of with Tomlinsons and Andersons. They were happy. I was happy. Thank you. Also thank you to Mom and R&R Lindgren for a much appreciated place to sleep.
School started August 11th. We’ve been in session over a month now. I’m enjoying work at Taylor Intermediate School in the Resource room. The boys are all in a good routine at their schools and Samantha and Riley enjoy day care at Carousel Pre-school . Isaiah was sitting on the organ bench with me during prelude last Sunday and asked if guys could play the organ. He said he would like to learn. So he starts piano lessons this week along with Hyrum and Bryan.
Beautiful weather, interesting creatures. I found a scorpion in my house one morning…along the baseboard under the computer table. I put it in a jar and put the lid on tight. After a week it looked dead. Hyrum suggested we dump it. He opened up the jar and let it out on the ground and immediately it perked up and started moving. We scooped it back up and put the lid on the jar. And there it sits, after a month, still alive as ever. We’ve had a few harmless snakes in the yard this year too.
Looking forward to soccer starting this week and the favorite season around here of Fall.

Oh, and guess what?! I’m back in cub scouts! I’m the new Wolf den leader.

It's a bad sign when you can't remember the last time you wrote a Lingo entry. Of course, I can hardly remember what I ate for breakfast, so maybe that's a bad gauge. A quick update on the Jason Tomlinson family. We had a nice summer, a little busy we thought, with Jason taking some classes and Becky in charge of Young Women's camp. Little did we know what was lurking in September...The last week of August marked the beginning of new adventures: Jason started his first semester as a part-time graduate student in the Masters of Accounting program at USU. He took some prerequisites this summer, but they were one-semester-covered-in-one-week kind of classes. Now we have the whole entourage of school stresses: big books to carry around, nightly homework, and worst of all group projects!
At the same time Jason began rehearsals for another play (wait, don't let your eyes glaze over, this is different!). There is no music, no costume changes, no dancing, and NO WOMEN! The play is called "Twelve Angry Men" and is the story of a jury deliberating over the verdict in a murder trial. It is the first drama ever to be done at the Old Barn Community Theater. A historic event! The show runs every Friday, Saturday and Monday in October (www.oldbarn.org for more info!). Jason's character is the only man to vote "not guilty" in the first scene and the rest of the show develops around his arguments for doing so.
We have spent a lot of time this summer planning to redo some landscaping on our grass-obsessed yard. (We have .25 acres of thirsty lawn!) So maybe by the time the next Lingo rolls around we will be able to report that 2,000 square feet of that lawn has been removed and replaced with trees, perennial flowers and bushes, along with some attractive xeriscaping. How come no one told us that owning a house changes your perspective on everything! I never thought I'd find myself reading landscaping books and flipping through seed catalogs. Speaking of the yard, we've enjoyed our first year as gardeners. Jason picked (and picked, and picked) raspberries. Some were eaten, some were frozen and many were made into freezer jam. Becky also made a batch of applesauce with apples from one of our trees. The sunflowers were big and beautiful. Now we are waiting for them to dry so we can harvest the seeds. We had two exciting squash volunteers: one pumpkin and uh....squash/pumpkin/zucchini hybrid...the SQUMKINI. It looks like a bumpy, green-bottomed pumpkin. We've picked a few beets and carrots, but the caterpillars ate all the cabbage, the onions never grew and we're not sure the corn's going to make it. We could do pretty good as grasshopper farmers though!
And, last but not least, we would like to announce that our family is growing (actually, just Becky's belly for now). We are expecting a new baby in February of 2009! Becky is having nightmares about growing a third arm to try and keep up with a third kid. Meanwhile, Katherine has told us she is naming the baby. When she was told "usually that is Mommy and Daddy's job" she said "Okay. But if you pick a dumb one, I'll pick a better one." Last check, Boots, Dora and John were on the list, along with a few names I'm sure can't be found in any baby books.

My goodness, time goes fast!! I spend so much time looking forward to a trip, it finally arrives, I return home, and BOOM. Summer is over. And I already have a month of school behind me. wow. Nauvoo was amazing!! I really enjoyed that trip - many thanks to Rick for planning it and being the chauffeur. We saw some beautiful and interesting sights. It was fun to be in Nauvoo after spending part of my summer at the Pioneer Heritage park in Salt Lake. It was interesting to compare the two historical tourist sites - one being a state park, and the other a church history site. Here, the focus is more on the buildings, way of life, and history of the area. In Nauvoo, the focus is on the faith, religion, and individual people of the area. Here, the tour guides try to pull you into the time period - pretend to be pioneers, get you involved in doing things. There, the tour guides share their testimony of the gospel, and try to help you understand the sacrifice and faith of the early Latter Day Saints. Both places are good, but very different. It was fun to see the differences! Oh, and April was good, too. She is a very talented performer!!
Those of you who have access to facebook, check out the pictures I uploaded. After a crazy start to the school year (new administration, huge project to clear out of the library, etc), things are calming down a bit, and going good. It's nice to finally have the students coming in to the library, and excited to be there! It was great to have the second grade cheer when they learned they get to check out two books this year, instead of just one. :)
My family spent the day here at Grandma's for Labor Day. It was a fun day! We just ate, watched a short video, played games, and visited. Yesterday, some of us spent the day in Logan with Jason's family - attending the temple, eating, and visiting. We sure don't need much entertainment - we just enjoy one another's company. It's great!
Congrats to Blaine and Annemarie for 50 years of marriage. Their kids did an amazing job with the party. Very cute!! It was fun to spend a few minutes there visiting with Suzie, Elizabeth, Helmut, and Gerda.

Well ever since Scrabble went off facebook everything went crazy at my house. Now that Scrabble is back on Facebook I can't seem to get it together to play every night. For those of you who don't "facebook" it is a way of playing those Lindgren games across the miles with other family members. My plan is to start playing this week. That is, after two back to school nights, three cheerleading practices, two piano lessons, one voice lesson, three cross country practices and one cross country meet. Pre-school with my 4 year old niece and a few football and volleyball games to watch Rachel cheer. Laminating at the middle school and copy mom at the high school then help out with testing this week at the elementary school.
Until I typed it out I didn't realize how ridiculous my schedule is. I am doing elementary, middle and high school this year and I feel like I have 10 kids. We also plan to double date this week with my new sis-in-law. Dave's brother Chris (age 38) found the love of his life and we celebrated their wedding August 30th. I am so glad they are married!!! She is so fun.
Dave turned 40 Today so last Friday I invited over 100 people to his surprise party. We had a great time and Dave felt loved! We are having the best weather in Boise. You should all move here. Approx 85 and sunny for about 3 weeks now. Funny how happy the weather makes us. We were in Seattle in August and the weather was perfect every day. Too bad we know how rainy and cloudy it is most of the time. Ammon and Angela were great to show us the best sites and being with them was great.
We went camping in August near a lake and in the middle of the night I heard light scratching on the tent. The next morning I found spiders as large as my thumb under the awnings of our tent having laid their sacs of baby spiders. The next night I heard them again and went to sleep with prayers of gratitude for Heavenly Fathers creations and hope that they would not crawl on me. The next morning I woke up early to Dave shining the flashlight on two of them fighting over a spot just outside the netting of our tent as to who got to lay their eggs there. Dave destroyed them with the back of a flash light later. So much for my appreciation of Heavenly Fathers creations. I am not so sure I love camping like I used to. One of the ladies in our group got West Nile Virus from a mosquito there also. She has a low immune system so she has really been fighting it. I was thinking about putting together some camping trip next summer up to Red Fish lake in the Sawtooths. But until I get over my "Sick of Camping" attitude I may not.
I have a single mom living with me right now. She has been through a bad divorce and really trying to get on her feet. She helps me remember my blessings everyday. I lost a dear friend on August 5. She was 79 years old and a true full of life kind of lady. Her death has caused me great reflection the last month or so. She had a wonderful relationship with her husband and she always had a kind word for me and everyone. She always told me she loved me. I really miss that. I remember missing that on my Mission in the Philippines. Not being able to hear my parents say "I Love you" every time we hung up the phone. I am trying to show more love and be even more patient with my children. They are bringing me great joy but only when I remember I too am learning.
Rachel sang in Church last week. A 10 year old girl in the ward told her if she were in the Olympics with her voice she would have recieved a "Gold medal". We too enjoyed watching the Olympics. I especially love the synchronized swimming. I seriously was very impressed.
The state of the economy has caused Dave some great stress at work, but in our relationship and personal lives we feel closer than ever. I guess that makes us grateful for the challenges life brings us.

Until I typed it out I didn't realize how ridiculous my schedule is. I am doing elementary, middle and high school this year and I feel like I have 10 kids. We also plan to double date this week with my new sis-in-law. Dave's brother Chris (age 38) found the love of his life and we celebrated their wedding August 30th. I am so glad they are married!!! She is so fun.
Dave turned 40 Today so last Friday I invited over 100 people to his surprise party. We had a great time and Dave felt loved! We are having the best weather in Boise. You should all move here. Approx 85 and sunny for about 3 weeks now. Funny how happy the weather makes us. We were in Seattle in August and the weather was perfect every day. Too bad we know how rainy and cloudy it is most of the time. Ammon and Angela were great to show us the best sites and being with them was great.
We went camping in August near a lake and in the middle of the night I heard light scratching on the tent. The next morning I found spiders as large as my thumb under the awnings of our tent having laid their sacs of baby spiders. The next night I heard them again and went to sleep with prayers of gratitude for Heavenly Fathers creations and hope that they would not crawl on me. The next morning I woke up early to Dave shining the flashlight on two of them fighting over a spot just outside the netting of our tent as to who got to lay their eggs there. Dave destroyed them with the back of a flash light later. So much for my appreciation of Heavenly Fathers creations. I am not so sure I love camping like I used to. One of the ladies in our group got West Nile Virus from a mosquito there also. She has a low immune system so she has really been fighting it. I was thinking about putting together some camping trip next summer up to Red Fish lake in the Sawtooths. But until I get over my "Sick of Camping" attitude I may not.
I have a single mom living with me right now. She has been through a bad divorce and really trying to get on her feet. She helps me remember my blessings everyday. I lost a dear friend on August 5. She was 79 years old and a true full of life kind of lady. Her death has caused me great reflection the last month or so. She had a wonderful relationship with her husband and she always had a kind word for me and everyone. She always told me she loved me. I really miss that. I remember missing that on my Mission in the Philippines. Not being able to hear my parents say "I Love you" every time we hung up the phone. I am trying to show more love and be even more patient with my children. They are bringing me great joy but only when I remember I too am learning.
Rachel sang in Church last week. A 10 year old girl in the ward told her if she were in the Olympics with her voice she would have recieved a "Gold medal". We too enjoyed watching the Olympics. I especially love the synchronized swimming. I seriously was very impressed.

I just re-started school after a 3 year hiatus. It's a pleasure to be at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Mostly, I think, because I'm in the frame of mind to be here. Namely, I am not in a hellish personal state. My readiness to be in school is even better because I really know what I am doing this time, and I have so many other aspects of my life well established. This is not to say that school is easy or without stress, but I am realizing that I really can handle it, and I will be able to handle more and more because of my Buddhist practice and Daniel and all the amazing people I practice Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism with in the SGI. It is such a life-encouraging way to live. I'm in the BDIC (Bachelor's Degree Individual Concentration) program. This means, if my proposal is accepted, I will be designing my own degree with a concentration in Sustainable Villages. The classes I am taking this semester are BDIC proposal writing, Human Ecology, Intro to Biology, Math 101, and People, Cultures, and Societies. So far I like all my professors well enough, and I am slowly getting to meet people. It's a bit challenging, since I'm a non-traditional transfer student who lives off-campus and works a lot more than most students (20-25 hrs/week). But it's alright, because I know I'll meet people eventually, and I have such great people in my life outside of school already. Besides BDIC my favorite class so far is Human Ecology. It feels the most relevant to what I'm actually doing with my future.
Daniel's Birthday was today. Hey everyone!The air is crisp and the leaves are beginning to change colors. We ended up with 8 pumpkins from our garden. Our tomatoes are still green, but I guess the Mormon Pioneers had the same problem because I found a couple recipes from vintage cookbooks for using green tomatoes. I will try them out this week. Fall is my favorite time of year in Utah. It is hard to not love it! I've been on a quick bread making binge! Maybe it's therapy, but I have made over 300 big & little loaves of pumpkin, zucchini, or yellow squash bread. One of the recipes I found is Green Tomato Bread; looking forward to trying it! (I did not get any apples this year, so the pie making record of 56 pies in 21 days still holds). I am also finally "getting" how easy it is to grind your own wheat. Really only takes me a minute, and the oven is warming up anyway. There is NO shortage of bread takers, not to mention that this freezes well.
School started. We finally got a family blog: http://familee8.blogspot.com/. I am the luckiest aunt in the world! I get to watch Misty's baby, her cuteness ZuriAnn Kay, this year a couple times a week. This week we will harvest the rest of our little garden.
Happy Birthday Chris! (21 September). Some things you may or may not know about Chris: He is an avid reader, and loves Louis L' Amour books. He wants to hike the "Big 3" one day. Chris is a great dad, and has no problem taking 6 kids with him anywhere, even grocery shopping! He loves to spend time with all of us, and will sacrifice to spend time with the famiLee... fishing, shooting, bike riding, or to a dollar movie. He is a fabulous husband, making me laugh everyday, sending me text messages to remind me that he cares, and so much more. I Love You babe!

Things have been super busy this summer in Seattle. We had nice weather in August and September is turning out to be quite pleasant, though the rest of the 'summer' wasn't very summer like with rain and cool temperatures. Ah, the Pacific Northwest...
Anyway, things are going well. Finn is growing like a maniac and is coming up on his 1st birthday next month. His hair is still blonde (getting curly in the back), he has about 7 or 8 teeth (and he loves to bite!), and he's the fastest crawler in the west. Seriously, none of his baby friends can keep up with him! He just started a thing called KINDERMUSIC as well as PRESCHOOL (for babies). Angela is keeping him busy during the day (or is Finn keeping her busy?), and it's just the two of us in the evening, hanging out and doing manly stuff.
Angela is enjoying her job as she was promoted and handles insurance claims; I hate my job and am looking for other employment. You know what they say, it's best to look for a new job while you already have one, right?
It was fun to have the Yorgasons in town in early August--we saw a baseball game, went to the beach, did tourist stuff downtown, and even watched the Locks do their thing for a few hours.
Besides that, not a whole lot else is going on. We're sad to see summer go but excited for fall as it is our favorite season. Hope you all are doing well...

Hi Family,
Well, summer is over and school is in session. Casey finished out his job with Cub Country, and actually admitted to liking it in the end. He made some new friends, and it helped that one of his good friends from school started working with him for the last couple of weeks. Right after he finished his job for the summer he attended O.Y.A in Idaho at the base of the Tetons. He had a good time rock climbing, white water rafting, horse back riding,etc. He went with his two best friends, Nick and T.J. I asked when he got home which was better E.F.Y or O.Y.A? He said E.F.Y because they had dances, and no bugs!
While Casey was in Idaho, the rest of us except for Travis (who stayed with Dorothy) went up to Yellowstone for a couple of days. It was so beautiful. We saw elk, bison, and coyotes, and a lot of pretty cool gysers. We picked up Casey and his friends on the way home in Rexburg, and went to Bear World. That was a unique experience to drive through the bears, especially when John stopped and a bear decided to hop on the top of my car. That was pretty freaky and made the price of admission well worth it. They also had a very tame moose who let us pet him and rub the felt on his horns .. pretty amazing!
Travis started preschool, Casey-9th, Mitch-4th, and Alyssa started Kindergarten after Labor Day. She absolutely loves it!
Last Tuesday morning, while I was in report at work, Casey called me and told me John was having "a low" and basically wasn't being himself. It had happened several nights in a row over the weekend so I warned the kids before I left work that if Dad acted incoherent or out of his mind to give him some juice. (John has had type I diabetes for 9 years, and this is really the first time he's had any "low" episodes in at least 5 years. I'm sure it's because he hasn't been feeling well, and he did some pretty physically exhausting stuff over the weekend so he was just too tired in the night to recognize the lows, so he could get up and get something to eat). Anyway, I could hear him in the background of the phone call, I gave Casey some instructions and told him I'd be right there. So, I left work and ended up running a red light where I ended up t-boning a guy--totaling his car. Nice huh? The police officers were really nice. I told them I was just in the zone of needing to get home. They offered to send medical help to the house, but John was already fine by then. I was pretty shakin up, but neither one of us was hurt badly. I'll just need some chiropractic care for awhile, and my car should be ready to pick up this week.
I went to Annamarie and Blaine's 50th wedding anniversary "sock hop" last Friday night. It was an open house with some dancing, and "Dippin Dots" my kids favorite. Their children each payed them a tribute, and then Blaine read Annamarie a poem he had written. It was really cute ..fun party.
John just got back from elk hunting today. His brother had a tag for a bull, and they camped up on Strawberry peak where they had a skiff of snow. We had actually all gone camping there in August, and it was cold then. Anyway, he was successful on day one, but it took two days to pack the animal out. They were in steep terrain, and in a no motorized vehicle area. He said he had a great time, and the scenery was incredible.
