Grandma Martha

Dear Family,

The past two months have gone by so quickly. Something has to be said for writing in a journal daily so you don't forget where you are and where you've been. Had some nice experiences...I attended a program featuring Alyssa at the U of U in a dance extravaganza. The costumes were elegant and the theme was Aladdin...Thank you for taking me Ma and Pa Anderson. It's been a long time since I attended a rodeo. John and Emily took me to the one in Oakley near Kamas. It's amazing how those cowboys bend their bodies on a horse before they eventually fall off...same with the bulls. The 4th went by speedily. I always enjoy watching the festivities at Washington DC along with fireworks on TV. I was glad not to have been where there were crowds. Our weather has been hot.

Of course the highlight of events was probably the Wedding of Zachariah Lindgren. The reception was held in our Stake House due to the rainy weather. And John worked so hard in his beautiful garden. Lucy brought Rachel down to EFY and spent a little time here. She always leaves some good memories behind. She rearranged some pictures and purchased new frames where she put in all the married grandchildren's pictures. I didn't realize I have 23 married grandchildren. I'm missing a few pictures like Troutmans, Aaron Lindgren, Dahles, Peter Lindgren, Darwin Buhler and would appreciate having them for this nice set up Lucy did while she was here...so please.

Janet, Heather and I went out to lunch at the Green Tomatoe and saw the movie Kit Kitterage (All American Doll). That was a pleasant afternoon. Daily I work with deceased Noreweigans mostly out of Solum in Telemark County. Thanks be to you who help with the work. We're taking a break through the month of July from clogging. In August we have the County Fair and we are on the agenda for the Festival of Trees in December. With Rick, Reba, Heather, Janet I've enjoyed playing Ticket to Ride a few times. (German version...I don't win but its fun.) Our Stake is making Quilts for the Humanitarian work. Heather and I went over and tied quilts...now have bound one. There will be more. Today I'm looking forward to Steve and Jennifer coming for a few days. Looks like a busy time for her when she gets back home this week end.

Looking forward to your letters in the Lingo. I always print out a lingo...good history..so please keep writing. Lots of love to all of you and pray your life is good.....Love Grandma Martha.

Hello Family,

Greetings from the family who has traveled through the most states since the last entry. We just drove coast to coast within the last two weeks. We stopped in Wyoming for a job interview (got the job) and Utah to enjoy the 4th of July celebration with my family. I love getting together with family especially when you haven't seen most of them for two years. We are currently in CA visiting Jeff's parents. We have enjoyed the sun, beach and Legoland. We are heading back to Utah this week for our family reunion starting this weekend.

We sold our home in 6 days and decided to jump on the opportunity to head back and live around our family. So Jeff quit his job in New Hampshire and we started driving west 5 days later. We needed to wait for the kids to finally get out of school. We had 5 snow days this year so it postponed the last day of school. We were already staying with friends after moving out of our house so we sold and got rid of most of our stuff. It took us over 50 hours to drive. Pulling a trailer made it so we could only go 55 mph. We passed only 3 cars the whole drive. It was fun to see the country go from the green trees of New Hampshire to the desert of CA. We enjoyed living in New Hampshire. It was a great place to live.

We are moving to Lander, Wyoming at the end of the month. Jeff is going to work in a Hospital there. We are hoping to get to visit more family now that we live closer. Well that is what is going on in our lives. We look forward to reading how everyone is doing.

Dear Family,

Alan and I have enjoyed using our season tickets for Hale Center Theater. We saw “Annie Get Your Gun” in May and “The Curious Savage” in June. Surprisingly, none of our children were in any plays during those two months. However, Heather has been rehearsing as a “Who”- mother in the Alpine community play, “Suessical the Musical” that will be performed seven days in July. We’ll be going tomorrow night.

We enjoyed seeing and visiting with John’s family at Zachary’s wedding reception in May. It was fun to see some of the former ward members as well. Zachary’s wife is very pretty.

Jason and his family came down over Memorial Day weekend. Most of the rest of our children came home too. We just played games and enjoyed each other’s company.

Marcus graduated June 3rd from high school with the ceremonies held at the E-Center.

June 7th we went to the baptism of Daniel’s former girl friend in Provo. She had a lot of friends there in her support, including 9 of us, and Daniel’s new girl friend. We enjoyed walking on the BYU campus, reminiscing, and telling our children what we remembered from our BYU days (I’m glad they don’t mind listening).

It was nice to visit with Lucy and her children while they were in Salt Lake during the time Casey and Rachel went to EFY. And it was nice to visit with Jennifer, even though it was short, when she and Steve were visiting Mom last week as part of their road trip-visits/vacation.

We got to have our two grandchildren stay with us for a week the end of June while Becky attended her ward’s girls camp as assistant ward camp director. They sure were a lot of fun to have around.

One day in June, Ariane and I were given an assignment to help clean the Tabernacle. Marcus and Kevin came also (after I volunteered them) which was a good thing because with the other two volunteers, we were the right number for this cleaning team. We had fun mopping all of the wood floor under all the benches on the main floor as well as the balcony. We got to stop and rest briefly each time the missionaries brought in a tour, when everyone had to be quiet as they gave the “pin-drop” demonstration when they talked about the acoustics of the building.

This past week, from early Wednesday to Saturday night, Marcus and Ariane went to Martin’s Cove in Wyoming on a pioneer trek pulling handcarts with the other youth in the stake. It brought back lots of fond memories when we went four years ago. They had a good time, even thought they got hot and worn out. Marcus drew the picture for their theme, “Faith in Every Footstep” used on their flags and journals (I am sending the picture with this letter).

During June we refinanced our house and got it energy efficient. The added comfort of central air-conditioning, a new furnace, attic insulation, vinyl windows, and siding is very nice and we hope it pays for itself in the long run as they say it will. When you come to visit next, you may notice our yellow home isn’t the bright yellow it used to be, but rather much lighter in color.

We hope all of you are enjoying your summer. It is already time to start thinking about the kids going back to school next month with registration and all. The summer is just to short!!

Hey Everyone,

This summer has been great, I had a great time with my cool brother Kevin and some other friends at the Warped Tour on June 28th, it's basically an all day concert event, where over 50 rock bands come and play. I got to see Angels and Airwaves, Relient K and Reel Big Fish, among some others. We even saw this all girl ska band from Japan; it was really fun. This has been my 3rd time, and I think it's one of my favorite summer traditions. I look forward to it next summer. I even saw Tyson Lindgren there, and we got to hang out for a little while. It was a fun event.

I spent the 4th of July watching the Stadium of Fire fireworks show from the parking lot of my apt. and avoided all of the horrible Provo traffic (motor vehicle and foot traffic).

The most exciting news is most likely my new job, I posted about it in my blog. I work as a digital artist for this website http://www.woogiworld.com if your kids like club penguin or other similar sites, then they should love this one too. This one the parents will love too, because it's designed to teach kids how to be safe on the internet, how to be responsible citizens, and it even has a reward system set up for doing chores and other jobs at home, with the help and approval from their parents. It's really cool. I get to design the character items (such as hats, shoes, hands eyes and mouths) as well as the furniture, and I just got the project to design one of the building interiors. I should get my first stuff up on the site before the month is out. so go check it out!!!! (not that you will know my stuff from the others, but still...)

Other than that, I am still working at thanksgiving point, and trying to make the most of my summer. I hope everyone is well, and thanks again to Jennifer, and everyone who contributes to the lingo each month. It’s so much fun to hear from you all.

Dear Family,

We spent the 4th of July with Ammon, Angela and Finn in Seattle. We had a barbeque with Buffalo burgers, and yummy summer fruits like watermelon, canteloupe and strawberries. We had a great view from their front yard of the city and two firework displays. There were, of course, the many illegal fireworks going on in the neighborhood.

Finn is growing so fast and it was a lot of fun being around him as he is getting around pretty quickly on his hands and feet (sort of skips the knee part of crawling), and he's been standing, balancing himself while holding onto a chair. So cute, he just makes me smile -- he's got such a catching laugh -- a very happy boy. However now he is teething, and with his 7th tooth coming in he puts everything in his mouth -- fingers, celery, crackers, cat fur...

While in Seattle we decided to go Mount Rainier National Park -- it was a nice day, but when we got to the mountain it was in a cloud with a foot of snow on the ground. We know the mountain was there somewhere, and this was supposed to be when the wildflowers were in bloom, but they had a late snowstorm.

Steve helped Ammon with a project in their kitchen -- that is removing an attached box in the ceiling that had no purpose. It turned out to be a bigger project that anticipated, but now the secret behind the box was revealed -- there was a hole where the smoke of an old stove would escape. (The house was built in the 1920s.) The project wasn't finished when we left, but we're sure Ammon will do a good job.

We left Seattle and headed east and spent the night in Butte, Montana. Then we drove south to Worland, Wyoming, where we spent the day and night with Ralph (Ammon's grandpa) and Ann Gilbert. We had a very nice visit and drove 20 miles to the town of Kirby for a great meal (the town is known for its one restaurant that is always packed with people). We stopped by Thermopolis Hot Springs (World's Largest Hot Springs) for a look (didn't get in) and drove south through some very beautiful country in Wyoming -- South Pass (just south of Lander where the Troutmans are moving to) and Wind River Canyon. Along the canyon walls there are signs naming the prehistoric period of time that the canyon was formed millions of years ago. (Jurassic, Triassic, Cambrian, etc.)

We then drove to Sandy, Utah to visit Mom for a couple of days. We learned to play Ticket To Ride with Mom and Rick and Reba. It's a fun game. I can't get enough of it and played several times with Mom and Heather. We had a good visit with Dorothy, Heather, and Emily and her family.

Dear Family,

Hello from the Andersons. We’re so glad it’s the summer, but it’s going by way too fast! Our kids were out on June 5th, and Casey got his hair “cut” for E.F.Y the following Saturday. I put the “cut” in quotes because I would only call it a trim. It was the bare minimum to get him on campus, with the promise that Lucy would take him to the BYU barber if necessary. Casey got a ride down to Provo the next Monday with our neighbor who was also signed up to be down there that week. There actually ended up being four others in our ward going at the same time and I didn’t even realize it until that week. Rachel got to know a few of them as they were in her group. Lucy brought Rachel down from Boise and met up with Casey making sure he got to where he needed to be. Casey stayed in Heritage halls, and Rachel at the Riviera. Both places I lived in when I went to BYU. For both Lucy and I, being on campus again was like a walk down memory lane. Anyway, Casey and Rachel had a great time down there that week. They went to classes and dances together. They made a lot of new friends who Casey keeps in contact with via e-mail now. Lucy and I picked them up and took them to breakfast the following Saturday and got to hear all about it. While they were gone, Lucy stayed at Mom’s with Nathan and Kristen.

It was fun for Mitch, Alyssa, Travis and I to hang out with them, and just play. Lucy even put a swing in one of Mom’s trees. That was a big hit, and has been all summer.

On the following week, I took Mitch up to Camp Tracy (Millcreek Canyon) for Cub Scout camp. He was able to earn several things towards his WEBLO badge. I also learned they were short on help, and brought Casey and his friend with me the next day to check things out. They were immediately put to work teaching ping- pong and marbles for the day. He filled out an application, got in on a carpool, and the rest is history. I can’t say that he is loving his new job. His mother got him into something that he wasn’t expecting to do and now he feels like it has ruined his summer. The pay isn’t great by any means, but I think the experience is, and it’s only through August 2nd. So, I am making him stick with it a few more weeks. Casey hasn’t been deprived this summer by any means. He’ll be going to his Super Activity this weekend to Moab for a river trip, and the he’ll be headed to the Tetons in Idaho with his friends for O.Y.A for more white water rafting, rock climbing, horseback riding, and camping in August.

We enjoyed watching Alyssa dance at Kingsbury Hall in the production Aladdin with her dance company. She tapped to “Mr. Sandman” It was soooo cute! For our 19th wedding anniversary, we went up to Midway with all of our kids ( I know what were we thinking?). We went swimming and fishing and just played. It was a lot of fun. Mitch caught a pretty good sized trout.

Mitch turned 10 y/o and celebrated by going to see Sea Monsters in 3-D at the IMAX in the Clark Planetarium. Later that week, he went with a friend to see Wall-E. They decided that Kung-Fu Panda was “way better.”

We celebrated the 4th of July swimming at John’s sisters, and then watched the fireworks from our back yard -always a good show- especially when you have a three year old who loves to “ooo” and “ahh” when he sees them. The next day we went to the Oakley rodeo and took Mom with us. We all had a good time up there, and watched a good fireworks show afterwards. The weather was a little cooler up there and the scenery was beautiful.

Jennifer and Steve were here this week at the tail end of their trip, we played a good game of “Hand and Foot”. Mom and Steve won.

Travis peed in the potty for the first time last night, so another major milestone is taking place at the Anderson household. Alyssa turned 5 y/o on May 30th , but we are actually celebrating it tomorrow night at Bouncin Off the Walls. We are getting together with five other families in our neighborhood who have all had a child turn 5 this last month. We will have the place to ourselves for an hour and a half followed by pizza and cake in the party room. It’s going to be a blast.

Life is busy, as usual! (don't I start every lingo entry that way?) Seussical opening night was Friday, and it's going well. It has a very short run - we close on the 21st. It's a fun show to be part of! If you have a facebook account, you can see the pictures I added to my profile. (if you're not on facebook yet, you should try it out...) I've enjoyed volunteering at This is the Place Heritage Park. I started out in the Jewkes home, where we teach about processing wool - picking, carding, spinning, dyeing. It was very interesting to learn, and fun to teach to visitors. Then, I moved to the one-room school house. We treat visitors as students - have them sit with ladies on one side of the room, gentlemen on the other. Then I explain the consequences for using your free agency unwisely (including standing in the corner, the use of the paddle, & the dunce cap). Once behavior expectations are established, I move on to teach spelling using the Deseret Alphabet (a phonetic alphabet used for 25 years in the Utah territory) and geography (the village is not in the US - we are still a territory), and dismiss them for the day. Last time I was there, the volunteer 'teaching' reminded the 'students' that tuition would be due soon, and told them what she would accept in lieu of money (wood chopping, fresh eggs, room and board for part of the year, etc.). It is a FUN site to be in! I only have a couple more weeks of volunteering before my vacation -and then real school starts...

It has been nice to have family visitors this summer. Sometimes I'm home when the Andersons hang out at Grandma's, and it's fun to read and play games with them. Travis and Alyssa like to visit me up in my room, and look at my books with me. (I'm glad my books are being put to good use!)

It was great to have Lucy and her kids here for a few days last month. I know Grandma really appreciates the projects Lucy does while she's here. This time, she put new liners on the kitchen cupboard shelves, helped us find some good deals at the DI and some garage sales, organized all the wedding photos of the grandkids into a couple collage frames for the 'grandchildren wall,' and put a up a swing in one of the trees. I know the Andersons and some of the Tomlinsons have enjoyed the swing. All the grandkids should come try it out! And while you're here, make sure your wedding picture is on the wall. I know Grandma is missing a few, and would love to put you up with everyone else.

Grandma and I have enjoyed playing "Ticket to Ride" with Rick and Reba and the Rankins. Fun game! Thanks, Rick. I'm looking forward to teaching it to my family some time.

Grandma and I are excited for our Nauvoo trip in a couple weeks. I've never been there, and I can't wait to see all the church history sites, as well as watch April perform.

Dear Lingo people

Having a good summer. Mostly just taking care of Samantha & Riley and working on my English and Family History classes. I’ll be attending the Family History Conference at BYU at the end of the month. Its nice to have James driving. He can take himself to work, etc.

James went on trek with our stake. He also took a couple of friends and his dad to Havasupai Falls in the Grand Canyon. He works occasionally as a lifeguard at the Snowflake pool. He has pneumonia. He’s been active and walking around with an occasional painful sounding cough for three weeks. I finally took him in to see the doctor. We were both surprised.

Hyrum attended Scout camp at Geronimo for a week. He is Deacon’s quorum president, likes palling around with friends, and working to earn money. He did some landscape work for a neighbor this week. His skin turned dark, he has a blister on the palm of his hand, and he got a nice check. He is working on the reading merit badge (easy for him) and continues to rise early and exercise. His cell phone (afforded by sister Krista) seems to be his best friend.

Bryan likes being with friends. He thinks up great things to do if I will accommodate him. Oh, and he will be wearing glasses starting next week.

Isaiah enjoys his scooter and watching Avatar on TV.
