Dear Family,
Congratulations Lucy and family with your brand-new baby, Garrett. We are so happy for you!
We have also had a few exciting “highlights” to share since the last lingo. I suppose the biggest news is of Marcus’ mission call that he received just last week. He will be serving in the England London South Mission, reporting to the MTC in England, July 9th, the day of my father’s birthday (Interesting, Penny left on the day of Alan’s father’s birthday). So we’re all pretty excited about that.
Alan was set apart last week to be a temple worker at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. He begins March 20th and will be working the 6 AM to noon shift every Saturday. He was so excited when he got his assignment that he bought his white suit and shoes the very next day. It was as exciting as getting a mission call!!
Another big highlight was Alan’s surprise birthday party for this 60th birthday in January. A LOT of people came to surprise him including all of our children and grandchildren, Mom, Marty & Janet, John & Emily and children, the Spilkers, and lots of other friends, ward members, and former ward members. He was totally surprised which made it all the more fun.
Ariane just turned 17 –our baby is growing up all too fast. She is getting more and more involved in theater in school. She spent two days at Utah Valley University in January for a theater workshop which was a fun learning time for her. About a week ago she had a part in the one act school competition play called “Check Please, Take Two,” where she just laughed and laughed. She did a great job- laughing. Now she is being a student director assistant for another school play for their “Drama Rama.” She hasn’t decided what she wants to focus on in college yet, but for now she is just enjoying high school.
We spent the day (Jan. 30) at Jason’s in Hyde Park to celebrate Dorothea’s first birthday. Then Kevin stayed with Jason’s family for a week and a half before coming back home again.
February 20th (the day of Priscilla’s 50th birthday – congratulations by the way, for becoming a member of the ‘50’s’ club), Alan & I took our 3 children still living at home to see the BYU Ballroom Dance Concert at the Conference Center Theater. We really enjoyed their very polished performance.
The end of February, Mom and Heather joined me at my stake’s Relief Society meeting and luncheon where a member of the Oquirrh Mountain Temple presidency spoke. Then yesterday, Heather, Mom, and I joined Lynnette at her stake’s Relief Society meeting and luncheon where Carol Makita (KSL news anchor and religion specialist) spoke. It is really nice to get physically and spiritually uplifted at these functions together and where we enjoy the sisterhood of the Relief Society.
Penny is doing well on her mission. She has been out just 6 months so she has just one year left. She is currently serving in Airdrie, which is a few miles north of Calgary. This is her 4th area since she arrived in Canada in October, and her 3rd and 4th companions. She is currently in a “three-some.” New sisters are expected to the mission soon at which time she thinks she might become a “trainer” instead of the one being “trained.” She has had a lot of good experiences, taught a lot of people, and was excited about her first baptism the beginning of March. She is also happy to know that the ground breaking of the Calgary Temple will be happening soon and hopes to be involved in some way.
