Dear Family,
Wow! The summer is just flying. Before you know it, school will start and Penny will be on her way to Calgary. Yes, we are very happy to announce her mission call to the same mission Heather returned from 11 years ago, the Canada Calgary Mission. She enters the MTC September 16th. She’ll be going to the Jordan River Temple this Friday, July 17, the 6:20 session (those of you who can and would like to be there, please come). She has been living in Provo and working, but we stay in close contact as she prepares for this wonderful time.
We’ve already been on our week-long vacation, so that may be another reason why the summer seems to be going so fast. The third week of June, right after Heather’s birthday, we drove two cars to take nine of us to Cove Fort, Zion National Park including Kolob Canyon, Cedar Breaks, Bryce Canyon National Park, ending with the Manti Pageant. The timing with the weather and temperature was just perfect. We enjoyed taking lots of hikes (including Angels Landing with the chains) and hundreds of pictures (check out “Facebook”). Heather and Kevin seem to have a hidden talent for capturing gorgeous pictures.
Our family has been blessed to live in the district of the newest temple, which will be the Church’s 130th once it is dedicated in August. It has been wonderful for all of us to be so involved with the open house that has been going on since May. Ariane was able to sing with the youth at the Conference Center for the Temple Celebration the end of May. I hope all who live close enough have had a chance to take the tour of the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. If not… get reservations ASAP. The last day is August 1st.
Soon after the school year ended, a lady in my neighborhood asked if she could refer her piano students to me because she was quitting. So I picked up about 7 new students. With crazy summer schedules, I’ve had to do some juggling to get their lessons in each week.
Marcus and Kevin enrolled in institute. Ariane has been attending “Summer Seminary” and enjoys it even more because of her friends there.
We celebrated the 4th by going to the zoo on one of the busiest days of the year there…. So many people that we either had to park across the street in Pioneer Heritage Park parking or along the street 5 blocks away (Jason’s family are real troopers). It was hot, but it was fun to be together and watch Katherine and David discover and enjoy the animals. However, I think like most kids, they’d probably tell you their favorite part was at the end when they could be like a spider on the rope web or go down the elephant slide as they played on the playground.
I hope all of you are enjoying your summer, making happy memories. Just don’t get too hot!
Love, Dorothy and family
